  • Registering as a Beginner Paddler. Select this option if you're a beginner.
  • Select this option if you're an intermediate/advanced Kayaker that hasn't yet been assessed by a NBCB Trip Leader. You will need to demonstrate a wet exit and assisted rescue on this trip.
  • Only select this if you have been assessed as a NBCB Kayak Trip Assistant.

The North Brooklyn Community Boathouse has a large fleet of touring decked sea kayaks for members to use. Unfortunately they're stored at our Ash St. boatyard that is currently only reachable by water. Is that going to stop us from kayaking?

OBVIOUSLY NOT!

We will take a very short canoe trip to the launch from Manhattan Ave Street End Park (MASE) (yes, a 2-Boat paddle!). We'll then prep the kayaks and launch from the Ash St boatyard.

We'll do a quick instruction session on land then launch and practice some strokes in a Decked Kayak. Get ready to have fun, enjoy the water, and hang out right in front of the breathtaking NYC skyline.

  • Meet:  1:30 PM sharp at Manhattan Avenue Street-End Park
  • Launch Kayaks: 2:45 PM
  • Return: 4:30 PM
  • Release: 5:30 PM

Dress to get wet, bring water, a snack, etc. Avoid jeans or other heavy cotton clothing.

This trip is intended for beginners by which we mean those who have never kayaked, those working on skills towards intermediate and those who may have skills but haven't yet paddled with us and gotten assessed.
