Nature Journaling & Urban Sketching Newtown Creek - Three Locations

Nature Journaling focuses on the appreciation of nature. Anyone with a love of nature can participate; no experience is necessary. All you need is paper, a pencil and your curiosity.   Organized by Monica Schroeder, scientific illustrator and art instructor.




Meet at noon: Under the K Bridge Park Corner of Meeker Ave and VanDam St. 30 minutes. We'll be in the park at the foot of the pedestrian and bike path  that go up onto the bridge onto the bridge.  There is a large mural. with a pigeon and the word Brooklyn nearby


1 pm Kingsland Ave Entrance to the Newtown Creek Nature Walk 1 hour.  We'll use the entrance nearest to the K Bridge. This is at the northern end fo Kingsland Ave, near the NYC recycling drop off.   Kingsland Ave is very industrial - be aware of all the truck traffic.

The entrance is a silver fence and there is bike parking outside.



2  pm Overlook of Salt Marsh Restoration Area of Hunters Point Park South Phase Two 1 hour. Brief talk about salt marshes, tides and currents.

Meet on top of the white overlook at the south end of the park. It hangs over the East River and is off It is off Center Blvd between 56 Ave & 57th Ave


Minimum supplies to bring: Paper/sketchpad/nature journal and pencil. Suggested to bring: fine liner markers, travel watercolor kit, colored pencils, binoculars.
