Biology/Art: Sketching Sea Squirts

Sea squirts are tiny creatures found and studied around the world because they filter plastic in the world's waters. These squishy amorphous creatures are found in multitudes in Newtown Creek, the East River, and other local waterways.

We'll also talk about local pollution concerns such as Combined Sewer Overflows, plastics, eutrophication, and more.

Then spend a fun afternoon coloring in your pre-drawn outline of Sea Squirt anatomy or, if you feel adventurous, design your own creature that filters our local waterways of pollutants.

Materials include paper, pencil, markers, colored pencils, and colored pencil blenders.

We'll talk about using colored pencils as professional artists use them and color theory.

If you like, bring food or drink to share.
