This event will be onboard the 28' Alcyon, a reconstruction of 1900's New Haven oystering boats known as sharpies.  Originally a one-man sharpie, Alcyon has been reconfigured to be pulled by 6 double-banked sculls with a total crew of 8, while her sailing rig is being fabricated.  Basic rowing skills and commands will be learnt to propel her in a seaworthy manner, so we may venture farther offshore in future rows.  On this day, we will make way to the mouth of Newtown Creek where we practise propulsion - afore and astern, turning to port and starboard, and stopping,  We will also learn how "catching crab" can ruin your day, and no, its not an STD nor is it fishing.

Please bring and wear the usual - water, food, hat, shades, sunscreen, etc.  We will have a fire and debrief upon returning ashore.
