This is a race against the tides to get up river as best we can before slack to ebb. We will press up toward the Queensboro Bridge as far as we feel able, come back and maybe hang out at Annable Basin for a bit, and then go check out the cormorants of U Thant and try to fit into the eddy there for a while.

This is trip for experienced canoeists who can get ready to launch in a hurry and paddle briskly against and across currents, at least early in the new tide.

Meet: 5:15

Launch: 5:30

Slack to ebb: 5:52

Back to clean up and release: 8:00 (maybe earlier)

Trip leader: Michael

If you're not sure whether you're ready for this trip, send Michael an e-mail: mr.haskell at the gmail.

Dress for paddling! Wear light, comfortable, NONCOTTON clothes and shoes that can get wet. Depending on interest and personnel (and temperature!), we could even do a little rescue practice. If you want to do that, bring a change of clothes and a towel. You can rinse the salt water off back in the boat yard in a cold-water beach shower.

For more on what to wear and bring, see our website.
