Here we are in the season's wake, our last City Light's paddle night. Summer has left the river and winter will wash what is left of the year away. Come paddle and contemplate all we've been through this paddle season. How we've changed as paddlers and people. How we haven't. Grab this opportunity to say farewell to our tidal strait, because winter, like the tides, will wait for no one. We're going to paddle until the slack turns and we forced to follow.
Dress for cold paddling! Knit cap, gloves, layers, wool. There may be a beach landing, so wear shoes you don't mind getting wet or put grocery bags over your feet like I did as a kid in the winter because my poor-kid boots had zero waterproofing and were more like wearing sponges on your feet. Bring water and maybe something warm to change into back on land. Bring a snack if you want to.
