Sea & wind-chill temperature looking good, a few paddlers from several sister organizations (Inwood, Yonkers, LICCB) are heading to
Democrat Point, Fire Island
for some last-minute, late-October practice.
It'll be an early start and a full day: we'll be on the road at approx 0630AM and return in-time for our Haunted Paddle Party.
The group will have several qualified instructors, who will be working from the ACA Essentials to Surf Kayaking curriculum.
We'll be in the surf but (other than safety) the emphasis will be on fun.
Although 5 miles west of where we'll be, click here to check out the surf camera.

Other than the ECC in the ACA document above---
- Strong self-rescue skills are recommended (roll, scramble, reentry and roll);
- Must be comfortable with capsizing/exiting/swimming with gear, all in the surf zone;
- Helmets are necessary (and will be provided). Tow lines, paddle floats, and bilge pumps needed;
- You must have cold-weather dress (a wet-suit, and a spray jacket, splash top, etc.);
- Bring water for the day (nothing potable there), and lunch+snacks.

The group will coordinate logistics tomorrow and Friday.
